Ana Brnardić

Ana BrnardićAna Brnardić was born in Zagreb in 1980. She has graduated in Comparative Literature and Croatian Language and Literature at the Philosophy Faculty in Zagreb and violin at the Music Academy in Zagreb.

She has published three books of poetry that received several prestigious Croatian awards for poetry:

- Pisaljka nekog mudraca (The Pen of a Sage, Zagreb, 1998 – Goran Award for Young Poets 1998.; Croatian Writers Association Slavić Award for the Best Literary Debut, 1999.);

- Valcer zmija (The Snake Waltz, Sisak, 2005 – Kvirin Award for Poets Under 35 Years of Age);

- Postanak ptica (The Creation of Birds, Zagreb, 2009; online edition: http://www.elektronickeknjige.com/brnardic_ana/postanak_ptica/index.htm, 2014).

A collection of poems from all three books was translated into Romanian language and published in Romania under the title: Hotel cu muzicieni (Bucharest, 2009).

Her next poetry collection will be published in Autumn 2014.

Her poetry is translated into English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Catalan, Albanian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Danish, Ukrainian, Hungarian and Polish language and published in different foreign literary magazines, anthologies and in poetry festival books.

From April 2011 she is the General Secretary of Croatian Writers Society where she organizes international writers’ exchange projects.

Together with Adrian Oproiu she is translating several contemporary Romanian poets and prose writers into Croatian.
